As I sit here in this empty shop and reflect over the last two years, all I can think about is the happiness this place has brought to so many. It may not have been successful monetarily, but it was successful in the friendships that were made and the joy of teaching others to take two sticks and a piece of string and create something that can be used for years and years.
Because of these friendships, we are going to knit every Saturday at St John's Lutheran Church on College and 8th St in Cedar Falls from Noon - 4:00 p.m. and EVERYONE is invited. Bring your friends, sisters, whoever, and join us
Before I say so long as the owner of The Sheep, I want to share a very touching story with all of you:
There have been two young ladies, who are sisters, coming in the last month or so. Yesterday they came in for the last time and when they went to leave, one of them slid an envelope with my name on it across the counter. She didn't say a word, just smiled. When they left I opened it and read it. She wrote that she and her sister have both struggled with depression and how knitting has given them something to focus on, keep their minds and hands busy and given them the ability to create. She says, "You and your shop have played a part in giving me and helping me discover something I love doing and look forward to. If I'm not knitting I'm thinking about what I want to try next. And it feels so good to want to do something again. I wanted you to know the joy knitting has brought to my life and how grateful I am for that and the role you played in it."
That, my friends, is what this little shop was all about. And if I helped one person find joy in their life with knitting, then my mission is complete.
Thank you everyone for becoming a part of my life and making the last two years something I will cherish forever.
